Dear Members,

What a great start we’ve had to the 2025–2026 season!

I want to begin by saying a huge thank you to everyone for your continued enthusiasm, hard work, and passion for campdrafting. It’s always amazing to see our community come together to support the sport we all love and to keep its spirit thriving.

As participation continues to rise and the SCA welcomes many new members, I ask everyone to show patience and understanding toward our clubs. They’re working hard to accommodate increasing numbers while maintaining the high standard of events we all enjoy.

A special mention must go to the Chiltern Campdraft Club for running an outstanding Men in Campdrafting event from the 4th–6th of November, followed immediately by an impressive three-and-a-half-day draft. These kinds of events are the heartbeat of our sport encouraging inclusivity, building community, and offering valuable opportunities for riders of all levels.

To all instructors who generously donated their time, and to everyone who contributed to the success of the weekend—thank you and well done.

I’d also like to wish Mia Moloney the very best as she prepares to represent the Southern Campdrafting Association at the Classic Ladies Foundation Young Ambassador Quest in
Tamworth in late January 2026. We’re proud to have her flying the SCA flag on such a stage.

Updates from the Board

Weekend Membership
You’ll have noticed that weekend memberships were removed at the start of this season. This wasn’t an easy decision, but towards the end of last season, the SCA office, weekend secretaries, and Directors were running into constant issues. Things like entries not being ticked correctly in Campdraft Central, people scratching their weekend memberships after being accepted, or paying for their entries but not their membership. All of that made it hard to manage and, more importantly, created potential risks around insurance coverage.

After careful consideration the board decided it was best to pause weekend memberships until we can find a system that works for members, secretaries, and the SCA office. We’ve been testing a few different options, but so far, nothing’s been user-friendly or cost-effective enough to roll out. We absolutely understand that weekend memberships are important to many clubs, so please know that we’re continuing to work on it. In the meantime, we ask members and clubs to bear with us as we work through this process. Our goal is a system that benefits everyone while maintaining administrative and safety standards.

SCA Magazine
The other change I want to touch on is the SCA Magazine. It’s always been a much-loved part of the Association but producing and mailing four issues a year has become quite expensive, costing just over $38,000 last season.
To reduce costs while preserving the spirit of the publication, the board has decided to move to one comprehensive annual magazine, released at the end of the season. It will include all the highlights, results, and special moments from throughout the year, plus our annual presentation night and plenty of space for our sponsors and partners.

This change will take effect at the end of the current 2025–2026 season, with the first yearly issue expected in late 2027, covering the 2026–2027 season. Savings from this adjustment will be redirected into initiatives that directly benefit members—such as youth clinics, judges’ and first aid schools, and other programs designed to strengthen both the quality and safety of drafting across the SCA.

As we head towards Christmas, I want to remind everyone to support our wonderful sponsors and event partners where you can. They do so much for us throughout the year, and it’s a great way to give back and show our appreciation.

Thank you again to all our members, cattle donors, transport operators, sponsors, and supporters for everything you do to keep this Association running strong. I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, enjoy the break, stay safe, and I can’t wait to see you all back in 2026 for another fantastic year of drafting!
